Confidentiality

Confidentiality for e-mail and telephone therapy is the same as in face-to-face therapy. I will make a report to a child protection agency if I suspect that a child is being abused. If someone’s life is in danger (due to the threat of suicide or homicide) I will notify the authorities. Finally, it is possible, although not likely, that my records could be subpoenaed by a court of law. Except under the above circumstances, everything that you tell me is held in the strictest confidence.

Privacy

The use of the computer or telephone as a means of communication for therapy always carries with it some risk regarding privacy. I do not use encryption software. I will maintain the confidentiality of our relationship as stated above, but I can make no guarantees about third party interception.
